September 29-October 3

9 Social Studies: Students are working on a mapof the world.  Map is due Friday.  Also, this week we are reviewing geological terms.  We are also beginning a chapter on geological regions of Canada.

11-0 Culinary: We are in the lab for four classes this week, as we are preparing for the BC student exchange students, and serving on Friday to staff.  Journals and recipes need to be up to date.

12-0 Geography: We have a quiz on Monday and a test on Tuesday on Canadian physical geography.  We shall then begin a unit on Canada's aboriginal people.

12-3 English: This week we are working on finishing our 5 paragraph essays.  As well, we are ending the Anglo-Norman period, by paraphrasing a section of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

September 22-26
12-0 Geography
This week we are finishing our geology unit of Canada.  We shall be examining the eight regions of Canada: Appalachian Region, Canadian Shield, Great lakes and St. Lawrence lowlands, the Hudson Bay Lowlands, the Interior Plains, the Western Cordillera, the Arctic Lowlands, and the Innutian Mountains.  As well,l we shall learn how the land of Canada affects our weather.

12-3 English
This week we are doing the Anglo-Norman Period.  After an over-view of the period, we shall read and discuss some of the ballods of the period, and examine the romance Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

September 29-October 3
12-0 Geography
We are finished our geology unit of Canada.  A review and quiz will be on Monday, and the test for marks will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30th.  After the test, we shall begin our unit of the first peoples of Canada, the aboriginal nations.

Sept. 15-19, 2014
9 Social Studies: we are beginning a new unit, on "Canadian Identity."  Who we are, how other's see us, and why we are as we are.  This is a short unit.  There will be a writing questions to be done in class at the end of the week.

11-0 Culinary: We are beginning a unit on Kitchen safety.  There will be a quiz and test on this unit next Monday and Tuesday.  In the lab, we are making a home dinner: Hamburger and gravy, garlic potato, broccoli and cheese sauce, and carrots.  Dessert is a brownie.

12-0 Canadian Geography.  This week we shall be loooking at how our geology has affected our country, and our lives.

12-3 English: we did our test for unit 1 on Monday.  We are beginning Unit 11: The Anglo-Norman period.

September 8-12
Welcome to Mr. Griffin's Homework Blog.  Here I shall let you know what we are doing this week, and what homework needs to be done. As well, quizzes and tests will be posted.
12-3 English
This week, students should be studying the Literary Periods and their dates.  As well, studying the notes on the Anglo-Saxon Period.  This week, we are reading and discussing Beowulf, "Caedmon's Hymn", and "Dream of the Rood".
12-0 Geography
We have finished the government unit.  A review will be on Wednesday, a quiz on Thursday, and a test on Friday.
11-0 Culinary
This week we are continuing with our unit on Food Safety.  We should finish by Friday, and have a quiz on Monday, and a test on Tuesday.  The test must be passed, before we can go into the lab.
9 Geography
We have finished the government unit. A review will be on Wednesday, a quiz on Thursday, and a test on Friday.

Welcome to a new school year!

September 2, 2014
Welcome to another new school year.  I shall be keeping students and parents updated on this blog once a week as to what we are doing in each class.  This semester, I am teaching 12-3 English, 12-0 Canadian Geography, 11-0 Culinary, and 9 Social Studies.

December 16, 2013
12-2 English
Students need to have their Who Am I essays into Mr. Griffin by Dec. 20th.
A test on Literary periods VI, VII and VIII will be on Thursday, December 19th.
Practise Test are on-line.
Students should be working on their Romantic presentations.

10-English
We have finished the novel Anthem.  Students should have all questions done on the novel.  A final chapter needed to be written on the novel.  This should be written in the voice of the main character, in journal style, keeping in line with the novel.  An essay should be written on the novel students chose to read this term.  The essay is about the main character of the novel.  How did the author develop the character?  Also discuss how the character changed in the novel.

Culinary 11
Students will have a test December 18.  The test will be on menu pricing, and on cooking methods--dry cooking method, and moist cooking method.  There will also be some cooking terms we have learned this year on the test, and some important temperatures.

7 Social Studies
Students will have a test on Wednesday, December 18, on the unit of leading up to Confederation.  Canada in 1850, had a very different life style from today.  Notes are available, it anyone wants them printed, or e-mailed.

May 27-31

11-2/3 History
Students will write a test on the period between the wars, 1919-1939.  The assignments the Rise of Hitler (the events that put Hitler in control of the German Empire, in point form) and the causes of WWII in point form are now due.  The final assignment is to present the details of the Holocaust of WWII, in a form the students chooses--essay, power point, song, poetry, as examples.  The final assignment will cover what led up to the genocide of the Jews.  What occurred during the holocaust?  Has this happened since WWII?  Could Canada be accused of genocide in the aboriginal community?
