2nd Semester

Grade 11 English, 2nd Semester, Term 3

This term will be concentrating on Speaking and listening skills. The class shall be doing a number of debates and speeches. To cover writing skills, major speeches will be submitted in writing for evaluation, as well as given orally. In addition, at least one Power Point presentation will be included in the speaking skills.

This term, students will be doing one research project, of about 1000 words (five pages, typed, double spaced, plus title page and reference page). The class will explore a number of reference sources, including, books, magazines, newspapers and the Internet.

More emphasis will be put on grammar, punctuation and spelling (choosing the right word) this term.

Evaluation for the term:

Speaking and listening skills (oral speeches and oral Power point presentation): 20/100
Reading and representing skills: content of speeches, research project, and power point presentation: 20/100
Writing skills:
speeches: 30/100
Research project: 20/100

January 7-11
Grade 12: Presentations on the Romantic period. Finish Romantic writers, Byron and Keats. Exam
Grade 11: Finish novel The Mountain and the Valley.
Essay on the novel The Mountain and the Valley is due Tuesday, Jan 15th. Essay should be 3-4 pages, typed, double spaced. Exam, will be January 18th. Independent novel essay is past due. Short Story is past due.
12 Journalism: Video is past due. Two news stories are due. Two DPS for yearbook are past due. Two editorials are due. There is no exam in this course.
9 English: Short Story is past due. Essay on Spirit Bear is past due. Finish grammar theory on tense. Practise for writing provincial exam. Review sheets for school exam will be ready for Friday.
